A lawyer with 20 years’ experience, Andrew has worked as legal counsel for large corporations for more than 15 years, and is one of AFI’s founding directors.
Dr Andrew Beehag
Formerly General Manager of CRC-ACS, a $65 million 5 year collaboration with 24 international partners in the development of composite materials technology, Andrew is highly experienced in technology development and commercialisation, IP management and business development. Since joining AFI Andrew has spearheaded the company’s vertical integration, partner strategy and multi-market strategy.
Director and Agricultural Management
John is an international consultant on crop management and agricultural harvesting equipment, with over 30 years’ experience in Australian and Asian markets, including 15 years of hemp breeding. John leads AFI’s crop management strategy, including crop quality management for medicinal cannabis.
Director and Harvesting Technology Development
Jim is a founding director of AFI, and brings decades of experience in farm management, mechanization, harvesting and processing. Jim leads AFI’s development of harvesting equipment and technology, including green stalk harvesting approaches and low cost decortication systems.
Hemp Breeding Program
David is a licensed hemp breeder with 15 years’ hemp experience and registration of 7 separate hemp breeds, including multiple low THC varieties. He also consults with IP Australia on breed identification and protection, and has developed quick plant testing technology for cannabinoids to enable rapid selection and breed development. David leads AFI’s breeding program, including our current development of multiple breeds suitable for medicinal cannabis.
Doug has more than 40 years’ experience in innovative product development and business management, from sporting equipment to modular kit assembly luxury catamarans. Doug leads AFI’s development of modular construction products, integrating AFI’s and partners’ technologies into a new generation sustainable building product.
Max is internationally trained in marketing and sales and for 30 years has developed and owned businesses in the USA and Australia in a diversity of industries including medical / health, communications / media, food, and building. Max leads AFI’s product and market development for the USA, and advises on market entry strategies for medicinal cannabis.
Dr Michael Heitzmann
Senior Materials Consultant
Michael is an innovator in materials from plant sources, and led the $2.5 million development of high strength composites from plants licensed by AFI. He brings extensive expertise in materials and production from his position at the University of Queensland. Michael will advise on research programs and materials certification for AFI.
Dr Craig Davis
Extracts and Food Development Consultant
Craig is an expert in food technology, essential oil extraction and fractionation technology, chemical composition and bioactivity of plant extracts. Craig has long experience in working between private industry and government laboratories, and will lead the implementation of new medicinal cannabis and food product development for AFI.
Dr Angela Hanke
Medicinal Product Quality Consultant
Angela has over 25 years’ experience in identification and isolation of essential oils, crop nutrition analysis, quality control and QA. Her experience in hemp crop management through to extract production and quality management is unique in Australia. Angela will head production management, quality certification and quality assurance for AFI.
Production and Quality Consultant
Bill is a skilled engineer and former mill manager at a major pulp and paper mill, with extensive experience in ISO9001 quality and ISO14001 environmental operations and manufacturing. Bill is an international business mentor, and will provide expert advice to AFI on large scale process development and quality management.
Professor Roy Hall
Professor Roy Hall is a leading medical researcher at the Infectious Disease Institute at the University of Queensland, specializing in insect borne viruses. As a medical adviser to AFI he will provide a strong link to the medical research community at UQ.
